Who Is Chemical Kim?

Chemical Kim is a science education influencer with over a million followers on social media platforms. Chemical Kim's science motivates viewers to investigate their world through hands-on experimentation. Chemical Kim educates and excites communities in learning science through presentations and programs. Chemical Kim's brings science to schools, libraries, foster care programs, Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and Children's Hospitals. At the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan she developed a "Science Friday" class for kids to actively participate at the hospital school. She also takes her science outreach to local television stations. Her television features started with "The Chemical Kim Science Show" on Public Media Network in Kalamazoo Michigan in which she received a Philo T Farnsworth Award and a PMN Spirit Award in 2008. Chemical Kim was the resident scientist on the ABC affiliate station WZZM 13 with news segments and biweekly science segments on the morning shows. Chemical Kim continues to be featured on the news and educational programs. Her latest segment on CBS's Mission Unstoppable has her teaching about bioplastic.
Chemical Kim is a Chemistry Professor where she works on improvements in chemical education, technology in science education, and inclusion in science education. She is the recipient of an ARC Grant on developing a science curriculum that includes science achievements from Central and South America. She has successfully authored technology grants for improvements in chemistry laboratories and brought mobile technology into the classroom with a classroom purchase of iPads. She continues to lead workshops and presentations on technology at colleges, schools, and conferences.
Chemical Kim holds a Bachelor of Science and a Secondary Education Certification from Michigan Technological University, where she was a featured alumnus in the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences in 2018. She holds a Master's Degree in Chemistry from Central Michigan University where she was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Chemical Kim has over 20 years of teaching experience in both community colleges and high school with also coaching cross country and track. In 2011 she was the LGBTQ Pride co-chair in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and continues to work in improving LGBTQ visibility in STEM education. She's a feature on 500 Queer Scientists.
Chemical Kim lives in Naples, Florida with her beautiful and supporting wife and four children enjoying water sports, running, scuba diving, snorkeling, photography, and Harry Potter cosplay.
